About Vermont Timber Frames

timber frame great roomWhile we're based in the New England area, we create timber frames for customers all over the country. We've raised our timber frames in New Orleans, Spokane, Alaska, even Dublin, Ireland, just to name a few sites outside the Northeast. Since most of the work takes place in our shop, we can fully respond to your requirements and dreams well within the boundaries of your budget.

VTF COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES

The quality of our product

Craftsmanship has always been our forte and is the reason so many of the most discerning architects, designers, and homebuilders choose us to design, craft, and erect their timber frames.

Flexibility

No matter the size or scope of the project we are prepared to offer solutions that make sense aesthetically and per the budget. We do not force our clients to commit to a 'package deal'. They are allowed to pick and choose which elements of ours help achieve what they wish to accomplish.

Custom capabilities

We embrace particularly challenging projects.

Industry experience

We have assembled a talented, versatile, and experienced group of designers, project managers, and timber framers led by Paul Martin, our master timber framer.

Historical/traditional expertise

"Paul Martin's willingness to learn forgotten timber framing techniques for the sake of historic authenticity was exactly what was needed to restore a Louisiana treasure and indeed one of our country's most significant historic buildings. Paul earned our utmost respect for his knowledge and complete mastery of his craft. We highly recommend him and wish him the best on any work he should engage in the future."
C. Rice, AIA

Design philosophy

Vermont Timber Frames has never wavered from a strict design philosophy based on the idea that 'form follows function'. Each timber in our frames is designed to perform its specific function - no more, no less. When the timber frame is designed and constructed in this manner it becomes the sound structural skeleton of the building while maintaining a balance that even the untrained eye finds pleasing. The frame is allowed to maintain its natural proportions - an issue critical to successful design. We receive countless compliments along the lines of, 'There's just something about your frames...' The 'something' lies in that natural balance.

Production technology

We choose our timber cutting machinery and methodology based on its ability to accommodate our design philosophy and not vice versa, which is so often the case.

Short lead times

timber frame structureVTF crews can erect the timber frames and install the SIPs

This sets us apart from many other timber frame companies who are only willing to drop ship a kit. We can send a VTF supervisor to work with an experienced local crew if one is available, but most of our clients prefer the peace of mind that goes along with having the same timber framers who cut the frame in our shop put the frame together on-site. This ensures an efficient and proper installation.

Integrity

Vermont Timber Frames stands behind its products and services as much now as when we were a company doing just a handful of frames a year.

VTF offers a Lifetime Structural Warranty

Affordability

As a company, Vermont Timber Frames believes in running as lean a machine as possible. We do not have a model home, which can be extremely expensive to maintain. We do not have a vast marketing budget as we have found the majority of our business comes via word of mouth. These factors, combined with our advanced design & timber-cutting technology have helped to make us one of the most efficient companies in our industry. We have found ourselves to be more cost-effective than many companies that may not share our reputation for quality.

Client Testimonial

"VTF was as invested in our new home as we were. Their expertise and level of service made them a special company to work with."
