Craftsmanship has always been our forte and is the reason so many of the most discerning homebuilders choose us to design, craft, and erect their timber frames.

STATE OF THE ART MACHINERY

Vermont Timber Frames is proud to introduce a powerful and versatile German-made automated timber-cutting tool to assist in our production of high-end timber frame homes and commercial structures. We have brought on board one of the first 5-axis Hundegger machines in the U.S.

Thankfully, the automated Hundegger machinery significantly reduces the lead-time needed to create a frame. Before the Hundegger, all production had been done by hand. The burgeoning demand VTF has seen over the past several years caused a significant backlog in our production schedule. This backlog was at times frustrating for us and the architects and builders we work with, and we are thrilled to have bolstered our production capacity in order to alleviate this issue.

Many architects and builders initially expressed concern that VTF would no longer be able to focus on the highly customized work that had been our forte. Nothing could be further from the truth. The 5-axis machine has the capability to fabricate even very complex joinery such as hip and valley roof systems. Our skilled craftsmen do any portions of projects that cannot be fabricated by the machine. Since the machine handles rudimentary tasks such as bulk cutting so efficiently, our joiners enjoy applying their skills to highly customized work.

In general, the Hundegger machine makes timber frames even more accessible to builders and architects.

Automation makes many types of frames more economical, particularly if the manufacturer duplicates the frame or certain parts of the frame. We feel we owe it to the building professionals who rely on us to incorporate any time-and-money-saving technique we can into the handcraftsmanship that makes our product unique. The increased efficiencies that the machine affords VTF result in reduced costs for our clients. It also has allowed VTF to enter into the truss and hybrid home markets. We enjoy assisting our clients in finding ways to combine traditional timber framing with other types of architecture.
